Mary Poppins Tickets Information
This live incarnation of the stubborn and lovable Mary Poppins and her misadventures as a nanny to two incorrigible kids is a delightful crowd-pleaser that you'll find yourself suddenly singing along with. Almost everyone knows at least some of the words to Disney greats like "A Spoonful of Sugar", "The Perfect Nanny", "Jolly Holiday", "Step in Time", and "Let's Go Fly a Kite". And those who don't will be singing them perfectly by the time they leave the theatre.
And don't forget the two songs that won Academy Awarding winning songwriters (for the Marry Poppins film score) Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman yet another Oscar awards for best song "Chim Chim Cher-ee". These are the same two men who wrote the music to "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" and the world's most translated song of all time, "It's a Small World".
But it's not all the same Mary Poppins musical numbers as the film. You'll also appreciate the new songs and additional music and vocal arrangements created by George Styles ("Just So", "Moll Flanders", "Tutankhamun", "Peter Pan", " Tom Jones", "Honk!", "The Three Musketeers", "Soho Cinders") to help add a dollop of re-imagination into the experience your Mary Poppins tickets will bring you. Great new songs with titles like: "Brimstone & Treacle", "Anything Can Happen", and "A Shooting Star" all complement the original Sherman brothers' numbers like icing on cake.
Mary Poppins tickets were brought to the Broadway stage by Cameron MacKintosh, whose list of production credits reads like a retrospective of the most influential and successful Broadway musicals throughout history, including: "Cats", "Phantom of the Opera", "Les Miserables" (the three shows with the longest runs in the history of Broadway), as well as "Miss Saigon", "Follies", "The Witches of Eastwick", "Martin Guerre", and revivals of "Oklahoma", "Oliver!", and "My Fair Lady".
After debuting on Broadway as Belle in "Beauty and the Beast", the lovely Ashely Brown brings even more obstinacy and grace to her new role in the Mary Poppins musical's titular role. And although the role of her leading man, "chim-chiminey" sweeper Bert, is played by an actor making his Broadway debut, Gavin Lee is no stranger to the theatrical spotlight, having performed in "Me and My Girl", "Crazy for You", "Over My Shoulder", "Peggy Sue Got Married", "Contact", and "Oklahoma" in London's West End.
The parents of Mary's charges, Winifred and George Banks, are played to perfection by Rebecca Luker ("Phantom of the Opera", "Nine", "Showboat", "Secret Garden", "Music Man", "Sound of Music") and Daniel Jenkins ("Wrong Mountain", "Big River", "Big", "Angels in America").
From there Mary Poppins Broadway boasts a supporting cast chock full of Broadway notables, including: Mark Price, Ruth Gottschall, Michael McCarty, Ann Arvia and Royal Shakespeare Company regular Jane Carr.
To see Mary Poppins tickets flying out of box office makes one wonder if bank branch manager P.L. Travers who wrote the Mary Poppins stories in the 1920s had any inkling of the spectacularly smashing success it would become.
