Ottawa Senators Tickets Information
Since then, the Senators have won four Northeast Division Championships including, most recently, this past 2005-06 season.
Despite their recent Division championship success, arguably the best season for the Sens so far was
2002-03 when they earned the coveted Presidents' Trophy, given to the NHL team with the best regular season record. That season they scored 113 points and beat the New York Islanders and the Philadelphia Flyers in the playoffs only to come one game shy of making it to the Stanley Cup finals, losing to that year's Cup winners the New Jersey Devils.
That was the first year for award-winning centre Jason Spezza, who you can still see dazzling crowds today with your Ottawa Senators tickets, as can you see Wade Redden who, although being initially drafted 1st pick by the New York Islanders, has ended up playing all of his nine seasons with the Ottawa Senators.
Since 1999, the Ottawa Senators have been going strong thanks in part to the leadership of team captain Daniel Alfredson, winner of the Calder Trophy his rookie year and a 4-time All-Star. Alfredsson has played in four World Championships, winning the bronze twice and the silver twice, and two Winter Olympics, winning the gold in Turin just this past year (2006).
On the opening night of the 2005-06 season Alfredsson and fellow first-liner Danny Heatley made NHL history, being the first to score winning goals for a shootout, this against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Until that time, Heatley was with the Atlanta Thrashers and also won the Calder Trophy his rookie year. Danny Heatley went on to become, in that 1 season, the first of the Ottawa Senators to ever to make 50 goals and the first to score 100 points in a single season.
There have been many changes to the Sens' roster for the 2006-07 season, including losing 4 players to free agency: Dominik Hasek (who went to the Detroit Red Wings), Brian Pothier (who went to the Washington Capitals), Vaclav Varada (who went to the Swiss Elite League), and Zdeno Chara (who went to the Boston Bruins).
Goalie Hasek was replaced by Martin Gerber from the Carolina Hurricanes. Los Angeles Kings defenseman Joe Corvo also signed on. The Senators then traded forward Bryan Smolinski and centre Martin Havlat to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Michal Barinka, Tom Preissing, Josh Hennessy, and some 2008 draft pick privileges.
The Ottawa Senators play their home games at Place Banque Scotia (as the French speaking natives call it) or Scotiabank Place (also known as Corel Centre) with a seating capacity of nearly 20,000 hockey fans.
