Indianapolis Colts Tickets Information
The Indianapolis Colts are one of 4 teams in the American Football Conference South Division (AFC South) – along with the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Tennessee Titans - and one of 16 teams in the AFC which in turn is one of the two conferences in the National Football League (NFL).
Starting out as the Baltimore Colts, they have been playing pro football as part of the NFL and its Western Conference since 1953 and as of 1967 the Coastal Division. During this time, they won 1 NFL Coastal Division championship (1968) and 4 NFL Western Conference championships (1958, 1959, 1964, and 1968).
The Baltimore Colts joined the American Football Conference and its East Division in 1970. In 1984 they moved to Indiana and became the Indianapolis Colts we know them to be today. They played with the AFC East all the way up to 2001, when they switched to the Southern Division (AFC South) where they remain today. During this time they won 6 AFC East Division championships (1970, 1975-77, 1987, 1999), 4 AFC South Division championships (2003-06), and 2 AFC Conference championships (1970 and 2006).
Before the advent of the Super Bowl, the Colts won 3 NFL Championships (1958, 1959, and 1968). They then won 2 Super Bowls, their first being Super Bowl in 1970 where they beat the Dallas Cowboys 16-13. Their second came just recently, in February of 2007, the Colts beat the Chicago Bears 29-17 in Super Bowl XLI.
Since 1984 the Indianapolis Colts have played their home games at the 57,000+ seat RCA Dome, more commonly known as the beloved Hoosier Dome. They have a new stadium in construction, the eagerly awaited Lucas Oil Stadium, slated to open in 2008 with a retractable roof and an estimated seating capacity ranging between 63,000 and 75,000. The team uniform colors are royal blue and white, and the mascot is Blue, the blue horse. 2007 marks only Blue’s second year as Colts mascot.
They are currently under the leadership of head coach Tony Dungy who has been in this role since 2002. Before that, he was head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also has a rich NFL career as a defensive back on the Pittsburgh Steelers and San Francisco 49ers. Tony Dungy is the most recent of only three people in NFL history to achieve Super Bowl victories as both a player and coach (the other two being Tom Flores and Mike Ditka).
A number of Colts have earned their way into the pro football history books, including running back Eric Dickerson (1987-91) who was honored in 1999 by entry into NFL Hall of Fame, and coveted Ring of Honor holders quarterback Jim Harbaugh, offensive tackle Chris Hinton, wide receiver Bill Brooks, owner Bob Irsay, and head coach Ted Marchibroda.
The Indianapolis Colts finished out 2006 leading the AFC South division with a .750 regular season record (12 wins, 4 losses). Get your Indianapolis Colts tickets and see how well they defend their championship crown.
