The Baltimore Ravens are one of 4 teams in the American Football Conference North Division (AFC North) – along with.the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, and Pittsburgh Steelers - and one of 16 teams in the AFC which in turn is one of the two conferences in the National Football League (NFL).

The Ravens have been playing football since 1996 when they joinged the NFL and the AFC Central Division. They remained in the AFC Central up through their sole Super Bowl win at Super Bowl XXXV in February 2001, beating the New York Giants 34-7. Then in 2002 they moved to the AFC Northern Division, where they remain today.

The Ravens have are the reigning AFC North Division championss, having won only 1 other division championship, that in 2003. They never won a division championship as part of the AFC Central. The Ravens did, however, win the AFC conference championship in 2000, beating the Oakland Raiders 16-3 and taking them to their victory in Super Bowl XXXV.

The Baltimore Ravens play their home games at the 70,000+ seat M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland, also known at various times during its history as Ravens Stadium and PSINet Stadium. The team uniform colors are purple, gold, and black, and the mascots are, predictably, ravens.

They are currently under the leadership of head coach Brian Billick who has been in this role since 1999. Before that, he had coaching and administrative positions on the Minnesota Vikings and on Stanford, Utah State, San Diego State, and Brigham Young University’s NCAA football teams. He playd college football as a tight end for Brigham Young University and was drafted in the 1977 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, 11th round. He was cut by the 49ers and, later, the Dallas Cowboys, before moving to behind the field positions.

Considered the true successors to the defunct Baltimore Colts (who went on to become the Indianapolis Colts), the Baltimore Ravens have honored a number of former Baltimore Colts with their esteemed Ring of Honor, including: Earnest Byner, Johnny Unitas, Lenny Moore, Art Donovan, Jim Parker, Raymond Berry, Ted Hendricks, John Mackey, Gino Marchetti as well as Ravens Micahael McCrary and Peter Boulware. Another Ring of Honor honoree, as of 2003, is original team owner Art Modell, who owned the Cleveland Browns from 1961 to 1995 and the Baltimore Ravens from 1996 to 2004.

The Baltimore Ravens are one of only 3 teams in the NFL to have never had a former player or coach honored by enshrinement in NFL Hall of Fame – the others being the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans.
