Janet Jackson Tickets Information
1982 saw Janet Jackson releasing her first solo album, self-titled, and two years later came her second, “ Dream Street.” From there, a legend began to take form.
All five Janet Jackson albums after that - “Control,” “Rhythm Nation 1814,” “janet,” “The Velvet Rope,” and “All for You” peaked at # 1 on the U.S. charts. This gave her five consecutive #1 albums over the course of 15 years, setting the record for female recording artists, and keeping on the Billboard charts for an astonishing 446 weeks. Of those five albums alone, Janet Jackson sold 22 million copies, just in the United States.
The next two albums Janet released were not as successful, though they came quite close, with 2004’s “Damita Jo” and 2006’s “20 Y.O.,” both peaking at #2. All told, Janet Jackson has recorded 32 #1 hits.
Janet Jackson has also put out a couple of remix albums, a compilation, and four boxed sets.
In 1999, Janet Jackson and Cher shared the honor of each receiving the World Music Awards’ Legend Award. In 2001, The American Music Awards gave her an Award of Merit. She was also the inaugural recipient of the MTVicon Award. In 2003, five of Janet Jackson’s albums appeared on BMG Music Club’s list of the 100 Biggest-Selling Albums in the U.S., and two of her albums were named on Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Even the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame recognized her genius, naming two of her albums among the 200 Definitive Albums of All Time.
Considered one of R&B music’s most influential artists, fellow R&B sensations like Beyonce, Aaliyah, and Brandy, just to name a few, all cite Janet Jackson as a major musical influence. Billboard Magazine named her among the Top 10 Best Selling Artists in the entire history of contemporary music while the RIAA lists her as the 11 th top seller. With over 100 million in record sales, she’s the 9 th most successful rock music act and the second most successful female pop music artist.
Between 1987 and 2007, Janet Jackson was nominated for 28 Grammy Awards and won five, plus the 2002 Recording Academy’s Governors Award.
An incredible dancer and choreographer as much as a singer, Janet Jackson’s videos and concert tours are also among some of the most memorable in all of music.
Janet Jackson’s 10 th album, and another #1 notch in her belt, is “Discipline”, which will no doubt add a slew of other chart-topping hits to her repertoire, which includes such classics as What Have You Done for Me Lately, The Pleasure Principle, Nasty, When I Think of You, Escapade, Black Cat, Love Will Never Do (Without You), That’s the Way Love Goes, Again, Together Again, and Doesn’t Really Matter.
On the Ellen Degeneres show, Janet Jackson announced The Rock Witchu Tour, her first tour in seven years, the previous one being the 2001 All For You Tour. She handed out free tickets to members of Ellen’s audience. Janet has since announced that the current set list for the tour is comprised of 44 songs.
Janet Jackson’s Rock Witchu Tour kicks off on September 10 in Vancouver, Canada, heading quickly thereafter to Oakland, California on September 13 where she’ll play at the Oracle Arena. The show makes stops around the country, until her October 22 show at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas, at which point she takes it overseas.
