British alt-rock do-gooders Coldplay are on the road again, bringing their trademarked lush, emotive, meditative style to arenas around the world.

The members of Coldplay met in 1996 on the UCL (University College London) campus, forming their first band, Pectoralz, then as Starfish, before completing their current lineup and becoming the Coldplay we know them to be today.

Coldplay Tickets Information
Starting with several limited release EPs – “Safety,” “Brothers and Sisters,” and “The Blue Room” – it was the latter album’s single Bigger Stronger” that got them Radio 1 airplay, finally establishing the name Coldplay in the public arena.

The band is:

  • Chris Martin on vocals, piano, and guitar

  • Johnny Buckland on lead guitar

  • Guy Berryman on bass

  • Will Champion on drums

Coldplay’s first big hit was Yellow released in advance of their 2000 studio debut, “Parachute.”

Coldplay’s second studio release, “A Rush of Blood to the Head” worked its way onto the Rolling Stone Magazine list of “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

That was followed by two more albums, “X&Y” and their most recent release, the Brian Eno produced “Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends.” The latter album hit the top of the UK charts, selling over 300,000 copies after being out only three days. Its first single, Viva la Vida had an innovative release, provided exclusively by Apple iTunes. The song marks Coldplay’s first Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit.

To date, Coldplay has sold over 33 1/2 million albums worldwide. Best known for their Grammy winning hit Clocks, Coldplay was the 2006 recipient for two BRIT Awards: Best Single and Best Album.

Activists to the core almost as much as they are musicians, the members of Coldplay contribute their talents and time to numerous charity organizations and causes, including Amnesty International, Oxfam’s Make Trade Fair campaign, the Teenage Cancer Trust, Live 8, and Live Aid 20.

As they prepare for their upcoming world tour for the Viva la Vida album, Coldplay has announced that they’ve arranged to record a track with Kylie Minogue called Lunar, to be released on their promised next album, scheduled for release sometime in 2009.

The Viva la Vida Tour comes on the heels of the band’s “Twisted Logic Tour” which hit several popular music festivals like Austin City Limits, Glastonbury, Isle of Wight, and Coachella.

The Viva La Vida Tour kicks off on July 18 at HP Pavilion in San Jose, California and hits sites in the U.S. and Canada until their Boston, Massachusetts show on August 4 after which they fly overseas for several dates in Europe. They return to North America on October 20 and the United States from October 21 at Cincinnati, Ohio’s Quicken Loans Arena through November 26 at Jobing.com Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. From there the band returns to their native UK for several more incredible performances.
